The hazards of being a nerd
Nov. 4th, 2017 08:47 amLiterally woke up last night with a realization about Draco.
Remember that opal necklace for Dumbledore that was an attempt to kill him? That always seemed rather vicious to me, not, as Dumbledore said, a half-hearted attempt.
This is obviously the same necklace from Borgin and Burkes with the sign in front of it stating it had claimed the lives of nineteen Muggle owners.
Dumbledore wasn't a Muggle, so Draco probably assumed it wouldn't kill him. But that leaves the problem of Katie Bell, which I had to look up.
Katie Bell, who delivered the package, is either pureblood or half-blood according to her Wiki entry, not Muggleborn. My money's on her being half-blood since she did get sick from touching it, but didn't die.
So, Dumbledore was right. The supposed assassination attempt was, in fact, planned to fail, and Draco was horrified Katie got hurt because he had assumed that since she wasn't Muggleborn, she'd be safe.
Three o'clock in the morning. I guess it's better than staring into the abyss.
